High Power shooting overview High Power Rifle shooting was originally based on courses of fire for military instruction. Courses include both slow and rapid fire and involve shooting from offhand, sitting, and prone positions at fixed targets at several distances. Distances are 200, 300, and 600 yards although reduced targets are available to allow all shooting to be done on 200 or 100 yard ranges. Equipment: Any safe U.S. or foreign military service type rifle (i.e. M1 Garand, AR-15, SKS, etc), with metallic sights and a magazine capable of holding not less than five rounds may be used. Military bolt action rifles such as the 1903 Springfield, Enfield, Mauser, and Mosin Nagant are also allowed. These use stripper clips for rapid reloading. You will also need eye and ear protection. No scopes are allowed. Slings may be used in all positions except the standing position. Though not required, you may wear a shooting jacket and bring a rug or shooting mat to lie on for shooting in the prone position.
